I fully agree with Mr Forsythe from London (Ontario) . If like Mr Maitlin, you believe this movie with the special effects of the 1999, the movie is hokey. But the character, dedication and courage of Ulysse has never been so well portrayed as by Kirk Douglas. Sylvana Mangano doesn’t do powerful, but she portrayed only too well why a man will fight 20 years to return to her and their son. Anthony Quinn gives a exquisite performance as the suitor. The current version with Armand Assante, while proficient in special effects, doesn’t exploit the richness of characters showned in the multi-european film. I have seen this movie in the 1960 and again this year. It is the same emotion and commitment. This is Homer’s Odyssey. If you have not seen this movie, fetch your hand on the vidéo. This is a film I would gladly engage in VideoLaser disc or the unusual DVD. It is worth the money.

…and that’s putting it mildly! Here Kirk is playing the Greek general Ulysses who spends twenty years away from the bosom of his family, ten at the Trojan War and ten on an ill-fated voyage attend to Ithaca.

Now, when I first came across my brothers watching this video, I couldn’t absorb my eyes that Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn were in such a cheap-looking movie! Nobody else is an actor or actress of any standing, and the production values are not up to Hollywood standards. Most distressing of all, everyone’s dubbed in, including Kirk!

Once I had gotten over all these obstacles, though, I was able to devour the movie. Ulysses’ adventures are recounted as a flashback as he recuperates from amnesia in a irregular kingdom. We sight him outwit the Cyclops, go enraged from the siren’s song, and lose all track of time while being enchanted by Circe. Intersperced with Ulysses’ strivings are scenes help at Ithaca, where Penelope has all she can do to fill onto her absent husband’s throne from would-be usurpers vying for her hand. A unusual suitor emerges from the pack, played by Anthony Quinn, and he, like Kirk, plays his role straight despite the film’s other limitations. OK, I’m an Indian and like many other indians I too admire this movie and so you might mediate this is an biased review. For starters all hindi movies are musicals, i.e they involve song and dance numbers. I do not know why, but it has always been this contrivance. So if you like musicals you will topple in worship with this movie as the music is top notch and excellently choreographed and blends in well very well with the station.

This is a appreciate anecdote to start with and a very pleasurable one, that too. Though the storyline is familiar, boy falls in fancy with a girl, girl’s dad is the harm in the butt,boy tries hard to obtain the girl and finally wins over the girl , what sets this movie apart is the sizzling chemistry between SRK and Kajol and unbiased performances from the entire star cast. And I guess what appealed to the masses is that unlike in other movies, the hero does NOT rush away with the girl nor does he spend violence as means to elaborate his admire for the girl. An extremly intense film, Romper Stomper pulls no punches. Once the cops reach onto the gangs tail Hando leads them in a quest for money and guns, to obtain revenge on the Vietnamese community. During this sequence of events, Davey and Gabe become friends and soon more then friends resulting in a distorted fancy triangle. Rated NC-17 when first released this is one of the most spicy, intense, worthy films of the 90’s. A shapely directional debut from Wright and an equally glorious acting job by Crowe.

The DVD’s bonus feature’s were so myriad that it took 2 discs to occupy them all. Included is a talking track by Geoffrey Wright, in which he discusses about the filming of ROMPER STOMPER and gripping tid-bits about particular scenes as they appear on shroud. Also included on the first disc is a music track where the nazi punk rock songs, excellently quiet by Clifford White, can be heard alone.

On the second disc their is the theatrical trailer for the film, which is in my humblest oppinion the best trailer I’ve seen (it actually made me want to explore the film again that night) . There are the written reviews of major publications promoting the film and discussing how wonderful and mighty it is. Biographies of all fervent with project are included as well as over 60 minutes of interviews from 1992 when the film was first released and over 30 minutes of interviews with Geoffrey Wright from 2000, reflecting on the film and it’s impact on society. As well as all those features a demonstration of how the film was restored from the first American edition of the film, which had 1/4 of the film lop of from stare and had the leer of a 1940’s television program. Finally there is a track of photographs from the film displayed accompanied by involving facts about the film, it’s battle with censorship, and about the stars of the film.

Sure, Dracula gave a face and a mythology to the vampire in the 1800s, but the werewolf didn’t gather similar treatment for quite some time. It was only with “The Wolfman” that the werewolf got his due, creating the template for lycanthropes everywhere — a haunting, atmospheric anecdote about a mildly creepy man who (through no fault of his absorb) turns into an unholy mixture of man and beast.

Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr) returns to his ancestral Welsh home after many years away, to reconcile with his estranged dad who looks nothing like him (Claude Rains) . He immediately starts acquainting himself with his extinct home, including being rather creepy towards a glowing woman named Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers), who is working at her dad’s antique store. He even accompanies Gwen and her friend Jenny to a local gypsy camp to have their fortunes told.

But after having her fortune told, Jenny is horribly killed by a wolf; Larry beats it to death with his silver-topped cane, but not before being bitten. You can probably guess what happens next — the wolf turns out to be the gypsy fortuneteller (Bela Lugosi), and Larry’s bite mysteriously heals overnight. And after being warned by an old gypsy woman (Maria Ouspenskaya) that he has now contracted the curse of the werewolf, Larry finds himself undergoing a bad transformation at night… and killing.

It’s a mark of how estimable “The Wolfman” is that its dated special effects (hello, lap dissolve!) and prosthetics don’t hamper it as a legend — it’s an incandescent, slowly-unfolding anecdote about an ordinary man whose advantageous deed backfires in a ample contrivance. It’s also less “boo! Scary!” dismay than psychological fright — Larry is left wondering if the dreary gypsy passed on his horrific curse, or if all the talk of werewolves has given him clinical lycanthropy. In other words — is he cursed, or is he insane? Not a fun choice.

And George Waggner wraps the movie in righteous atmosphere — lots of misty forests, quaint rural villages, murky chapels and the occasional outbursts of shrieking and offscreen violence. The beginning is a itsy-bitsy awkward (enough canned father-son “reunion” conversations!) but kicks into gear when the characters go wandering off to notice the gypsies — and after that, it’s a boring bloody obtain as all the scientifically impossible things approach honest, and Larry finds himself increasingly trapped.

And while some of the werewolf stuff (including the distinguished rhyme) was made up for the movie, it adds a sign of mythological creepiness, as well as some graceful incantations (”The method you walked was thorny, through no fault of your bear…”) .

And Lon Chaney Jr. did an ample job bringing a sympathetic edge to the werewolf, turning convincingly from a jovial engineer/aristocrat to a man fearful by his horrific change. The one problem: he isn’t very sympathetic at the beginning, since he basically stalks Gwen (looking in her window with a telescope? ) and won’t fetch lost when she tells him to. Ankers gives a pleasant performance as a local fancy interest, and Ouspenskaya gives a spectacular performance as the dilapidated gypsy lady — eerie, sympathetic to Larry’s jam, and with a dry sense of humor.

Despite a slightly creepy lead character, “The Wolfman” is calm an enduring classic — it’s no longer exactly scary, but it is deliciously spooky. Definitely a must-see.

Anyway, YUA box position one is a split rating. The first DVD has the four previously rleased OVA episodes made in the early 90’s by a vivid crew of writers, directors, animators, designers breaking the former rules of sage and art in animation. Perhaps, most enlightening to me is the exercise of layers and camera to give run and intrigue to any amble. They took the camera and broke it from it’s usual, formal X-Y axis of movement and were impartial FLOATING it around. On top of that, a careful, and Smart utilize of color, light and lighting effects gave a super-real feel to this cartoon while suspending disbelief and thrusting my into a natty stylized, romanticized version of their reality where pregnant cats and jerky urge demons prefer precedence in life, and awkward relationships interpret the qualities of the characters and stories. When you consider that this was shot under camera, with all the double and tripple passes, and mattes aged to bring out backlights and transparencies, it is truely a marvel on the level of Disney’s faded ‘Ghost Chasers’ (? ) short with Donald, Goofy and Mickey. Technically and entertainment wise, these OVAs are the best bargain. Honest 5 STARS, and the reason I really purchased the box state.

The remainer of episodes are from the TV series (disks 2 AND 3), and I bewitch only half a season or less. Quality drops stout (to be expected), but more disappointing is the lack of cohesive writing. The stories are fun, and do originate sense, but the world changes for the worse as a ’siperhero’ called STRIKEMAN becomes a well-known tool in crafting the season, and a crossdressing dude shows up to serve the plice place…however, he can’t close being a woman, so he becopmes the SEXY girl on staff, but hides a special something. Miyuki and Kenny’s relationship kind of warbles along at an awkward distance, never really going anywhere. The art is glowing ancient; looks like worn Macross from 1981, or maybe cheap A-ko sequels from 1986. The technical and writing aspects of the OVAs are lost. However, the stories are serene exquisite in themselves.

The fourth disk contains extras, however I haven’t thoroughly scanned over them. I saw some artwork that looked delicate homely, and wondered why it was included. Aside from that, I can’t say what is on the disk.

Long time Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (played by John Nettles) and his now third Deputy Inspector are forever unraveling unsavory goings on in towns as diverse as Carsten (evidently the urban center of the county) or villages like Midsomer Mallow where the citizens busy themselves about the business of building up petty hatreds and retributions galore. The lope is never too posthaste. The slay or murders are always diabolique or so interpersonally convoluted as to render you entranced at it’s revelation. While lacking the bitter sophistication of Morse…or the witty repartee of Poirot in another era…these cancel mysteries will bequile you with their scenery, their down to earth eccentrics, and even DCI Barnaby’s gratified home life (gone are the psychological demons attacking unusual detectives and making them as uncomfortable as the victims they encounter) . None of that in Midsomer. You salvage the feeling Barnaby wouldn’t trade his job for a promotion to London in a million years, he’s pronounce, but constantly amazed at the capacity for slay in his elysian fields. He has a loving wife and a grown daughter who keeps tantalizing in and out of his life. The different villages are all intelligent. Nobody does this slay business better than the British…period. It’s honest a lark on all counts. At my house the wife, the kids, and the grandkids know that on Sunday evening it’s my Midsomer Kill night and woe to those who disturb me during those 100 minutes of mayhem.

Murders, and there are a lot of them, happen regularly in the villages of Midsomer County. The landscape is idyllically English, with broad greensward, manicured lawns, carefully trimmed hedges, cozy cottages and perfect gardens. The people of Midsomer County, ranging from working blokes to landed aristocrats, are for the most piece well-mannered. Gossip is a cottage industry. If it weren’t for all the corpses, the villages and towns of Midsomer County would be a magnificent region to live. As it is, they’re a exquisite location to die.

The cast was the finest unlit talent of the day, and the movie demonstrates why Ethel Waters was considered the greatest singer and entertainer of her day. In this movie, she also demonstrates that she is a sparkling actress and a lovely dancer. It’s a pity that the racial climate of the time didn’t allow her more films – she’s as magical on hide as she was, by all reports, in person. The remainder of the cast includes a heavenly young Lena Horne, surely one of the most handsome women ever to appear on veil, and who is here allowed to be smolderingly sexy, Eddie “Rochester” Anderson, who’s an endearing Miniature Joe, Rex Ingram as Lucifer Jr, and smaller but memorable appearances by Louis Armstrong, Butterfly McQueen, and “Bubbles” of Buck and Bubbles. Seeing Waters enlighten “Taking a chance on worship”, “cabin in the sky”, “Happiness is honest a thing called Joe” and her evil reprise of “Honey in the honeycomb”, complete with some dance steps that will floor you, is more than enough to recommend the movie, but all performances are enjoyable, and the songs and background music are huge. If we consume it as a “narrative”, as we are counseled to do at the beginning, then I don’t scrutinize it as a racist or dated film. The characters are almost all well delineated and believable within the “account” context, and are no more stereotypical in this context than numerous films of white people at the time that were also fantasies.

It’s a pleasure to sight from beginning to raze – clearly a timeless classic, especially well-known for archiving for all time the classic Waters performance and the safe acting, singing, dancing and comedic skills of some of the greatest dark talent pre-World War II.

Ethel Waters repeated her Broadway role of Petunia Jackson, a woman who fervently prays for her husband to mend his gambling ways for the mask with gigantic success, as she sings and dances her map into our hearts. Petunia is the central character in the film, and has most of the songs. The film was also instrumental in making Lena Horne a star, and even though her allotment as the devil’s handmaiden, Georgia Brown, is not a enormous one, she is comely, and makes the conceal sizzle with her sensual beauty.

Petunia’s husband, Minute Joe, is played by Eddie “Rochester” Anderson, and Miniature Joe’s soul is in the balance, as Lucifer Jr. (Rex Ingram) battles The General (Kenneth Spencer) for where it will expend eternity. The scenes with Lucifer and his minions, who include Louis Armstrong, are hilarious, as they status the best blueprint to tempt Runt Joe. The talent, music, and humor in this film beget it well worth watching as entertainment, and also for its historical value of being one of the best all-black cast vehicles Hollywood produced.

Big O is powerful in that it is one of the very few series to rep a sequel because the American audience demanded it. The series was originally going to be a measly 13 episodes, but the fans complained because of the vast cliffhanger at the waste of the last episode. Cartoon Network heard their plea, and produced another 13 episodes of the series.

In my view, the second season is not quite as fine as the first. The storytelling and art are not done in the same fashion as in season one. Whereas the first season extinct drab colors to announce the sense of hopelessness and despair in Paradigm City, season two abandons this in favor of more gleaming and shining colors. However, this is by no means dreadful, as the unusual animation and coloring looks exceptional. It honest doesn’t teach the grunginess of Paradigm as well as the first season did. The storyline is presented in more of a coherent legend with each episode directly tying into the next. This was my major dilemma with the second season. I loved how the first season gave you bits and pieces of the overall tale through each individual case Roger Smith completed (or failed to complete) . It gave the series a tremendous amount of depth.

The episodes themselves are fantastic, however, and the last four are among the best of the entire series. Some moments are absolutely breathtaking, such as when Roger faces off against a rebuilt Substantial Duo while racing against the clock to assign Dorothy, or when Roger finally reveals the honest power of Enormous O in the final episode. The episodes flawlessly mix space development with broad battles.

One of the greatest things about Stout O that makes it a timeless anime classic is the storytelling. Huge O tells an story mystery epic, and it does it with style. The titanic thing about this series is that it is one you can really discuss and have different theories on what exactly happened. The series has this habit of blowing everything you previously concept apt out of the water in a matter of minutes. And, like the ending to season one, the ending to season two simply presents more questions rather than answering everything.

As always, Spacious O has fabulous music, especially in these last episodes. The valorous battle themes and brooding, driving choruses truly position the stage for the myth finale. Overall, it’s a treat to listen to.

Big O is an anime I can recommend to any fan. It has all the things that produce anime great: deep characters, a tall set, unbelievable action sequences, and pleasurable music. If you sight Stout O with an begin mind and ponder the many things that happen, I’m positive you won’t be disappointed.

Love it when Roger Smith calls Sizable O. My approved anime! I have the complete collection plus some of the individual DVDs before purchasing the box collection. An anime for the family. No harsh language, blood or guts, or outrageous situations.

Yes, it’s a drama all fair, despite the half-hour format.
